Report: Florian Wirtz disappointment shared as Liverpool insider gives insight into 'main character energy' from…

Liverpool made extensive changes to their forward line in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Looking to build on their Premier League title success, the Reds broke the British transfer record for Alexander Isak alongside big-money moves for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

Isak has struggled for any sort of consistent form since his Anfield switch, while Wirtz was criticised following a slow start.

The German has improved at Liverpool in recent matches, but has still been hurt by some of the comments made on his form.

Liverpool’s attackers have ‘main character energy’

Wirtz is yet to score a goal for Liverpool, seeing his closest effort awarded as an own goal.

Now, The Athletic report that the former Bayer Leverkusen man has been left ‘disappointed’ by how his Reds career has begun and is said to have ‘taken some of the criticism personally’.

Furthermore, while Liverpool’s forward line in previous years, especially in the Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane era, appeared to be a cohesive unit, a number of their current options are said to have ‘main character energy’, according to one inside source.

Has Florian Wirtz caused Mohamed Salah rift?

Interestingly, the piece notes that ‘Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike, and Gakpo all have reasons to require validation’.

This comes on the back of an interesting report from Germany regarding the Egyptian and the ex-Bundesliga talent.

It was suggested on the back of the 33-year-old’s interview at Elland Road that the fact Wirtz is now leading the attack has sent Salah into a ‘rage’.

Such a claim seemed a bit much at the time, but if the Liverpool insider is right about the main character energy in the attacking ranks now, it may well have some truth behind it.

Wirtz and Salah are not competing in the same position, but Slot’s snubbing of the winger in favour of new signings in recent weeks may well have led to some tension between the club’s forward line.
