JJ Redick may have dropped a hint on Lakers next acquisition

Lakers head coach JJ Redick hinted that the team's next trade target could be a 3-and-D player who can defend and shoot threes around star players.

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to make roster moves ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, and head coach JJ Redick may have just confirmed the type of player they're seeking.

Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule

On Tuesday, Dan Woike of The Athletic asked Redick about the best way to play around star players like Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and Austin Reaves.

"Defend and shoot threes," Redick replied — which aligns perfectly with recent reports on the Lakers' plans.

According to multiple sources, Los Angeles is looking for a 3-and-D wing: a player who can knock down threes and make an impact on defense. Potential targets include Herb Jones, Andrew Wiggins, and Keon Ellis.

So far, interest has been limited. The Pelicans reportedly aren't willing to trade Jones, and the Heat's asking price for Wiggins is reportedly extremely high.

The Lakers' primary trade assets are expiring contracts and future draft picks, with second-year forward Dalton Knecht seen as a likely in-season trade candidate.
