The latest Liverpool injury news and return dates ahead of their Premier League match against Spurs.

Liverpool will be hoping to extend a five-match unbeaten run when they travel to North London to take on an inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur side in the Premier League this weekend – but could be missing as many as seven first-team players due to injury and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai both picked up injuries during the 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, while Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo are among other players who could be sidelined.

We’ve collected all of the latest Liverpool injury news and updates below ahead of the match against Spurs, along with the absent players’ expected return dates when available.

Will Dominik Szoboszlai & Joe Gomez be fit to face Spurs this weekend?

Liverpool’s win over Brighton came at a cost, with defender Joe Gomez replaced in the first half by Mohamed Salah after sustaining a muscular injury before versatile midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai limped off late on – giving Arne Slot a significant selection headache down the right flank.

Slot confirmed after the match that Gomez had suffered a muscular injury, adding that "I would not expect him to be in the squad next week [against Spurs]. But sometimes you get a positive surprise.” The exact nature of the injury has not yet been made public.

Szoboszlai, meanwhile, damaged his ankle, with Slot admitting that “it didn't look great when I just saw him, but he has [an] unbelievable mentality so let's hope for the best.”

Both players will have scans this week to determine the extent of the damage and neither has yet been conclusively ruled out for the match against Spurs, but if either are unavailable it will created a problem down the right wing.

The good news is that Conor Bradley will be available after serving a one-match ban for collecting five yellow cards, while Jeremie Frimpong is expected to train this week as he recovers from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since October – although the Dutchman remains a major doubt.

Mohamed Salah & Cody Gakpo among other players to miss out for Liverpool

Liverpool’s options down the right are further reduced by the fact that Mohamed Salah will be at AFCON 2025 until at least early January with Egypt. With the club legend’s future in doubt after the public deterioration of his relationship with Slot, it may even be the case that he has played his final match for the club.

Full details of when AFCON-bound players could return to Premier League action – should they stay with their clubs – can be found here, but in the meantime Salah isn’t the only player definitively ruled out for the match against Spurs.

Cody Gakpo is expected to return from an unspecified muscular injury in early-mid January, defensive midfielder Wataru Endo is on a similar timeline with his recovery from an ankle problem, and summer signing Giovanni Leoni is not expected to play this season after rupturing his ACL in September.

Slot’s options continue to be reduced further due to long-standing injury problems for two young players on the fringes of the first team: Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajčetić (both hamstring) are still working through their rehabilitation with their return dates not made public.
