The San Antonio Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup Championship on Tuesday night, but following the game, Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama had something much bigger on his mind.
Wembanyama spoke to the media after the Spurs’ 124-113 loss at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, when he revealed he suffered a tragic personal loss earlier in the day.

Wembanyama was overcome with emotion after the game and was on the verge of tears while answering just two questions. “I’m sorry, I lost somebody today,” he said.

Wembanyama finished the game with 18 points, six rebounds, one assist, and one block in 25 minutes, despite playing with a heavy heart.
It was a strong effort by Wemby and the Spurs, but ultimately, the Knicks’ fourth-quarter surge was too much to overcome.

Wemby and the Spurs will look to bounce back on Thursday night against the Washington Wizards at home. However, there’s no word on whether Wembanyama will be available for the game.
The Knicks, meanwhile, will look to keep the momentum rolling when they travel to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday night to face the Indiana Pacers.
