Fabrizio Romano: Barcelona make enquiry for Liverpool target

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Barcelona are interested in a Liverpool target ahead of the January transfer window.

The January transfer window is now merely weeks away, with plenty of situations for Liverpool to iron out in the winter.

The elephant in the room remains Mohamed Salah. While plenty of speculation has been going around about whether the Egyptian could leave in January. However, David Ornstein has come out to quell those rumours and firmly believes that Liverpool plan for Salah to remain at the club for the rest of the 2025/26 season.

Meanwhile, Having missed out on Marc Guehi in the summer, the Reds are reportedly ready to reignite their interest. The Crystal Palace captain’s contract situation has reached a critical juncture; as of January 1, he is eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs. This puts European giants like Bayern Munich in the driver’s seat for a free transfer in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano has already reported that the Bavarian outfit has held multiple meetings with Guehi and his representatives.

And it now seems that the Italian transfer guru has more disappointing news for Reds fans.

Appearing on the Men in Blazers YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that both Barcelona and Real Madrid have lodged enquires on Marc Guehi and have asked to be informed on the situation:

“There is interest from Spain as well, Spanish clubs are keen. Barcelona called to be informed, Real Madrid did the same. At the moment it’s not advanced. So, it’s these four clubs. I heard some rumours about Italian clubs [being interested], but I’m told it’s impossible for them to make it happen. So let’s see what happens, Marc Guehi is for sure leaving Palace and the interest in him is serious.”

Barcelona are needing to reinforce their backline after Iñigo Martínez’s departure to Al-Nassr last summer and would be a threat to Liverpool’s chances of landing Guehi.

Should the Palace skipper not sign a pre-agreement with Barcelona or any other foreign club this winter, it could be a big hint that he is Anfield-bound.
