Liverpool icon Graeme Souness believes a move for Antoine Semenyo is a ‘no-brainer’ for the Reds. The Bournemouth star is in the middle of a tug of war between Premier League sides following his sensational form for the Cherries.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both reportedly interested in the forward. Liverpool are also long-term admirers of Semenyo, who has a £65m release clause written into his contract that becomes active in January.

Asked about a potential deal for the Bournemouth star, Souness believes he would be an ideal addition, especially if Mohamed Salah leaves the club in the near future. Speaking to Sky Bet, the Liverpool legend said: “I would make the most of [Antoine Semenyo] if I was a Bournemouth supporter because you might see him beyond this Christmas, but I'd imagine he'll be away in the next window if he continues like this.

“He’ll be best suited to Liverpool, if Salah goes. Very different, but if you had asked me before [Alexander] Isak went to Liverpool, I'd have said tailor-made for Liverpool. That was a no-brainer on paper. So, I'm saying the same about Semenyo.

“Semenyo going to Liverpool and that team in front of that crowd, they would love him as well because he'll run through people and over people. He's got that aggression and he's got qualities as well.”

Semenyo, 25, enjoyed a sensational campaign for the Cherries last term as he netted 13 goals and provided a further seven assists in all competitions. He has continued that form with a further seven strikes in the Premier League this term.

Semenyo only signed a new deal with Bournemouth in the summer and boss Andoni Iraola has insisted that any potential exit is not on his mind for now.

Speaking before his side’s 4-4 draw with Manchester United, the Spanish coach said: "We cannot only analyse the numbers. He's not our number nine. He's a winger that gives us a lot of goals and a lot of assists, and he gives us chances normally. He was the biggest threat against Chelsea the other day.

"I don't feel (transfer speculation) is affecting him a lot. When you hear your name every day in the news you have to deal with the situation, but I think he's committed, and I haven't seen a lot of changes in him."
