Arsenal star’s‘volcanic, primal power’hailed as he beats Liverpool man to award

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres has topped Liverpool’s Alexander Isak to win the Swedish forward of the year award.

Fotboll Skanalen cover the award today, after the winners were named by the SvFF. The Arsenal man beat Liverpool’s big summer signing to the award.

Sweden have been busy handing out the titles this week, with goalkeeper, defender and midfielder of year all named in the men’s and women’s categories. Now the forward of the year has also been named.

On the men’s side, Gyökeres was up against Liverpool summer signing Alexander Isak and Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren. Isak scored 25 goals in all competitions for Newcastle last season. Nygren managed 16 goals in all competitions for Nordsjælland before joining Celtic in the summer.

They were both eclipsed by Gyökeres, though. He bagged 56 goals in all competitions, 39 in the Liga Portugal, making him the top scorer in the division. He then joined Arsenal in a big money move from Sporting Club de Portugal.

That earned him the big award from Sweden, ahead of the Liverpool striker, with the announcement full of praise.

“After a powerful spring at Sporting Lisbon, where Viktor Gyökeres poured in goals and established himself as one of Europe’s hottest strikers, a big summer transfer followed and an autumn with adaptation to Arsenal and a new level,” it said.

“Almost always mechanically reliable, with a volcanic primal power that makes him both difficult to stop and impossible to ignore.”

Gyökeres was also delighted to receive the award, after a busy year to say the least.

“It has been an eventful year,” he added.

“We won both the league and the cup with Sporting, and it was incredible to be part of and write history there. Then to make the move to Arsenal and be in the environment here and play is fantastic. I am incredibly proud and happy about the award. I take a lot of positives with me from 2025.”
