The Everton team's visit to Alder Hey coincided with a third birthday
Liverpool and Everton players have been spreading festive cheer over the past couple weeks as the Premier League sides visited Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The hospital is one of Europe's biggest and busiest children’s hospitals, they treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions.
On Wednesday December 10, Everton manager David Moyes and his first team players surprised children and staff as they headed to the wards to meet children and parents. Moyes, first team coach Leighton Baines, club captain Seamus Coleman and winger Jack Grealish handed out gifts to patients currently undergoing surgery.
Other members of the squad who have been patients at the West Derby facility throughout the past 12 months. The players came with gifts and spent time taking pictures and chatting to the children.
Yesterday, the Liverpool squad. Arne Slot and his team met patients and their families, as well as Alder Hey staff. The players posed for photographs and shared LFC gifts.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said: "This place is full of heroes, in my opinion, helping so many kids through very tough times. Not only the kids, also the parents.
"It's great for us to be here. It's tough to hear certain stories, but we know what it could bring if we are here and visiting the kids. I'm really happy to be here."
