Martha was part of the action during a recent NBA game—and it wasn't a good thing.
During an appearance on [_The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon_](https://youtu.be/3rj2Oeegd7s?si=A32uhkXAw08dr7jC), our founder recounted the story of how New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson accidentally broke her toe while she sat courtside during a game at Madison Square Garden.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound basketball player stepped on her big toe while running up the court, causing what she called the "Brunson fracture." She knew immediately that her toe was broken, but unfortunately, because the matchup with the Indiana Pacers went into overtime, she couldn't leave the game right away, which she said made the injury even more painful.
"Never ever wear open-toe shoes to a game like that where you're sitting on the floor," she joked with Fallon. She also said it's why she's still wearing open-toed shoes—they're the shoes she can wear right now.
After the game, Martha tattled on the player, telling his parents about the incident. "They thought it was so funny," she told the talk show host. (Jalen's father, Rick Brunson, serves as an assistant coach for the Knicks.) While the broken toe was an unexpected and unwanted souvenir from the game, Martha did receive a signed basketball for her grandchild.
During her appearance, Martha also shared some gardening tips with Fallon, who recently took up the outdoor activity. While his first attempt at growing cucumbers and tomatoes didn't go so well, she encouraged him to continue, suggesting he become a "dirt nerd." She offered to send him some sacks of organic soil and her 101st book, [_MARTHA STEWART'S GARDENING HANDBOOK: The Essential Guide to Designing, Planting, and Growing_](https://www.marthastewart.com/marthas-101st-book-on-shelves-now-11698240).
