Dominik Szoboszlai has been virtually ever-present for Arne Slot this season but was an unfortunate casualty of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brighton. Although he bravely attempted to continue, he was ultimately forced to withdraw, replaced by Federico Chiesa for the final minutes.
Speaking after the match, head coach Arne Slot did little to quell fears initially. Up until this setback, Szoboszlai had been ever-present in the Premier League, starting every game, playing virtually every minute, and acting as Liverpool’s one constant.
Losing him for a long period would represent a huge setback, with the midfielder having already produced 5 goals and 5 assists in 23 outings in all competitions this season.
But thankfully, some positive news has now emerged.
James Pearce of the Athletic has reported that Szoboszlai is hopeful of being fit for the clash against Spurs, and even if that’s not the case he should be ready to go against Wolves on the 27th of December:
“Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is hoping to be passed fit for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur,” Pearce wrote.
“A scan subsequently allayed fears that he could be facing an extended spell on the sidelines and Szoboszlai, who has been Liverpool’s outstanding performer so far this season, has responded well to treatment in recent days.”
“Liverpool will continue to monitor him closely before making a final decision on Friday whether he’s involved in the capital. If he is not risked then the expectation is that he will definitely be back for the visit of last-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on December 27.”
It follows from Hungarian reports earlier this week that “first examinations did not establish a serious injury”.
Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong could make a return to the matchday squad vs Spurs with his mid-December return date now passed.
