Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are 'for sure' interested in 'top' player as FSG decision to be made

Liverpool could be active in January, with several potential transfer targets mooted.

Marc Guehi continues to be linked with the Reds, who currently have just two fit senior centre-backs after Joe Gomez picked up an injury against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Other potential names that are thought to be of interest to the Reds include Yan Diomande, for whom RB Leipzig could demand €100m.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth and Ghana winger Antoine Semenyo could be available in January thanks to his release clause.

The versatile forward has seven goals and three assists to his name this term, and Declan Rice thinks he’s a top player.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham’s interest in Antoine Semenyo

Now speaking to Men In Blazers, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the Reds’ interest in Semenyo.

When doing so, he confirmed Liverpool are among the clubs looking, but added we will need to wait and see whether they will decide to invest in a move.

He said: “Interest in the player is concrete. Now he has to decide whether he wants to complete the season at Bournemouth or maybe go already mid-season. I can mention for sure Liverpool. Liverpool are interested in the player.

“Liverpool appreciate the player, but we have to see if they decide to invest this money.

“I want to mention as well, Tottenham. Tottenham wanted Antoine last summer that was not possible, and now also doesn’t seem easy for Tottenham to convince the player. So let’s see what’s going to happen there.

“And then Man City. Man City want to sign an important winger in 2026. Semenyo is one of the names, not the only one, but one of the names.”

How Antoine Semenyo compares to Liverpool forwards

Semenyo could be seen as a potential rival or even replacement for Mohamed Salah if he leaves Liverpool.

However, the 25-year-old’s versatility means he could technically be competing with all of Slot’s current forward options.

On that front, the right-footed winger is, despite playing in what most would consider a weak team, outperforming most Liverpool players in the Premier League this term.

Hugo Ekitike has as many league goals (7) following his brace this past Saturday.

But the rest of the Merseyside outfit’s forward line, including Salah (5), are lagging behind on the goal front.

Alexander Isak has one, Federico Chiesa has scored twice, Cody Gakpo has found the back of the net on four occasions, and Florian Wirtz is yet to open his account.
