New York Knicks Refuse to Raise Banner for NBA Cup Championship

The New York Knicks have won the 2025 NBA Cup championship. On Tuesday night, the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs by 11 points to win the third annual NBA Cup title. New York earned a trophy, medals, and prize money for winning the NBA Cup; however, there won’t be a new banner coming soon.

The Knicks won’t raise an NBA Cup championship banner at Madison Square Garden, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks, the last two winners of the NBA Cup, raised banners in their areas, making the Knicks the first team to refuse the option.

Instead of raising a banner, the Knicks will celebrate the NBA Cup title with their home fans on Friday when they host the Philadelphia 76ers. Following the championship game, head coach Mike Brown expressed interest in raising a banner, but New York players were indifferent about the situation.

The NBA Cup has no direct impact on the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. Therefore, the Knicks will wrap up the NBA Cup festivities on Friday night and move forward without a banner. The ultimate goal is winning the NBA Finals, and New York players are focused on bringing that banner to Madison Square Garden.
