Dwight Howard shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), reacting to the Knicks decision not to hang a banner at Madison Square Garden.
"I’m going to be second-hand embarrassed if the Knicks don’t raise the NBA Cup Banner, then don’t make it to the championship this year. Celebrate your wins while you can," Howard wrote.
The Knicks officially became NBA Cup champions on Tuesday after beating the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the final. New York finished the tournament with a 6-1 record, surviving a field of 30 teams to lift the trophy.
According to Ian Begley, the Knicks want to keep their eyes on a bigger target. The front office prefers to focus on the NBA championship in June rather than adding a Cup banner to the arena.
The Cup victory also comes with a financial reward. Each Knicks player will receive $530,933 for winning the tournament, along with a commemorative medal to mark the achievement.
