The Dallas Mavericks have been a major disappointment thus far on the 2025-26 NBA season, currently sitting at 10-17 ahead of Thursday night's clash against the Detroit Pistons. Anthony Davis has been in and out of the lineup due to injury as trade rumors swirl around the Mavericks amid their rough start to the season.
Recently, the Mavericks got an update on Davis' status for the game against the Pistons.
“Anthony Davis (left calf contusion) will remain listed as questionable for Thursday’s home game against Detroit, says Mavericks coach Jason Kidd. Davis missed Monday’s game in Utah after playing in the previous six,” reported NBA insider Marc Stein on X, formerly Twitter.
Coincidentally, the Pistons have been one of the teams floated as a potential trade suitor for Davis, as they look to capitalize on their hot start to the season, currently leading the Eastern Conference by 2.5 games over the second place New York Knicks.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have plenty of incentive to start taking calls on some of their veterans as they look to embrace a new era built around number one draft pick Cooper Flagg, who recently became the first 18 year-old in NBA history to score 40 points in a game.
Overall, the Mavericks were not necessarily expected to be a legit contender this year, but it's safe to say that the team was hoping for a much better start than what they have put on display thus far.
In any case, the Mavericks and Pistons are set to tip things off on Thursday at 8:30 pm ET.
