Detroit sports fans in the past decade have suffered through some hard times.

In the 2022–23 season, for example, the Detroit Pistons finished with the worst record in the NBA — 17–65. The Red Wings finished second from last in the Atlantic Division that season. In 2022, the Tigers finished 26 games out of first place and the Lions were climbing in 2022-23 season but missed the playoffs after finishing the year before at 3–13–1.

Now comes 2025.

The Detroit Pistons are dominating, sitting in first place in the Eastern Division with an impressive 21–5 record. The Red Wings are sitting in first place in the Atlantic Division with 41 points. The Tigers had an amazing first half of the season and fell apart in the second, but still had a respectable run in the playoffs.

And oh yes, the Detroit Lions team, which went 15–2 last year, is struggling but still has a winning record and isn’t out of the playoff hunt — at least not yet.

Can we finally declare that Detroit once again is a City of Champions?

Why not?

We don’t have to win a World Series, a Stanley Cup, an NBA championship, or a Super Bowl to feel like winners.

It certainly would be nice to win one of the those.

Still, it's a good time to be a sports fan in Detroit.
