Carabao Cup semi-final draw as Premier League giants learn fate and fixture dates

The draw for the semi-final of the Carabao Cup has been completed as Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Crystal Palace learned their fate.

Following the Magpies' added-time win over Fulham at St James' Park, the draw was completed with five teams in the hat, given Arsenal host Palace in the final quarter-final tie next Tuesday due to the Eagles' participation in the Conference League.

Chelsea were the first team to book their place in the last four as an Alejandro Garnacho brace saved their blushes away against League One Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Manchester City overcame Brentford in a routine 2-0 win thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Savinho at the Etihad on Wednesday. While Lewis Miley scored an injury-time winner as last year's champions edged past Fulham.

Carabao Cup semi-final draw:

Chelsea v Arsenal or Crystal Palace

Newcastle United v Manchester City

The semi-finals will be a two-leg affair, with the first leg taking place on the week commencing January 12, 2026. The second legs will be played the week commencing February 2, 2026.

The winners will be decided by an aggregate score, but if the two teams are level at the end of the second leg, the game will go to extra time and then a penalty shootout. There is no away goals rule.

VAR was not used in the semi-finals last year due to Middlesbrough hosting Chelsea at their Riverside Stadium, where VAR is not installed, to maintain fairness and consistency.

However, with this year's semi-finalists being Premier League outfits, VAR will be reinstated.
