Can All-Star Campaigns Help Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George?
Markkanen enters the All-Star voting period averaging a career-high 27.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 47 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.
The last healthy player to miss the All-Star Game while averaging at least 27 points per game was Bradley Beal (30.5 ppg) with the Washington Wizards during the 2019–20 season.
Beal missed seven games before voting ended, and the Wizards were 20–33 at the All-Star break.
Markkanen has missed only one game this season, and the Jazz hold a 10–15 record.
Keyonte George has also built a surprisingly strong All-Star case.
Winning and expectations change the conversation some, don’t get me wrong, but this is a comparison of Donovan Mitchell and Keyonte George in their third seasons.

The third-year guard is having a breakout season, averaging 23.5 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field, 35 percent from three, and 90 percent from the foul line.
At his current pace, George would become the first player in Jazz history to average at least 23 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists over a full season.

Fan voting will look similar to years past, with 24 total players being named to the Eastern and Western All-Star teams.
The three teams will face off in a round-robin tournament featuring four 12-minute games.
If the voting doesn’t result in 16 players for the two United States teams and eight players for the international squad, commissioner Adam Silver will add players to whichever roster fell short of its quota.
All-Star Weekend will take place between February 13 and 15. Voting concludes on January 14.
