All the early injury news surrounding Chelsea and Newcastle United as they prepare to face off in the Premier League.
Newcastle were also in cup action against Fulham during the week, but before that they lost to North-East rivals Sunderland, so they will be coming into this one needing a big result. Here we round up the early injury news surrounding both sides.
Dan Burn - Out
Burn is going to be out until late January. Howe said this week: “That was a big blow for us. I think he's been excellent in recent weeks. So, yeah, it's a rib problem with some issue with his lungs. We wish him well - it will probably be around 4-6 weeks.”
Kieran Trippier - Out
Howe said this week: “Emil Krafth and Kieran Trippier are still out, and their target date will be around the new year, we think.”
Emil Krafth - Out
The same update as above applies to Krafth.
Sven Botman - Out
Botman is expected to remain out until January with a back issue. Howe has said: “With Sven, we're not entirely sure when he'll return. He's made good progress, but he's not ready to play yet.”
Nick Pope - Doubt
Pope will be expected to return here, but it has not been confirmed.
Jamaal Lascelles - Out
Lascelles has an ankle issue that will keep him out for at least a couple of weeks more.
Estevao Willian - Out
Estevao is going to be out for this one, with Maresca confirming during the week: “Estevao has a small muscular problem, a light injury. He won't be available for Newcastle, but we will see for the next one. I think he can be available for the next one.”
Cole Palmer - Fit
Palmer was is not deemed fit enough to play twice in one week with his groin injury, and that meant he missed the Cardiff City game, but he is expected to be involved here.
Liam Delap - Out
Delap picked up a fresh injury against Bournemouth. Maresca has said: “We don't know yet. It could be two, three, four weeks. We don't know exactly how many days he will need.”
Romeo Lavia - Out
Lavia is not expected back from his hamstring issue until early January.
Levi Colwill - Out
Colwill is out for the season with a serious knee injury. It was confirmed back in August: “Levi has today undergone successful surgery [for] an ACL injury. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the medical department at Cobham during his rehab phase.”
Dario Essugo - Out
Essugo is likely to return in January. Maresca has said: “Dario, he was okay, started some sessions with us, but he needs to slow down a little bit and will be out, but we hope nothing important. We hope he will be fine.”
Mykhailo Mudryk - Out (Suspended)
Mudryk is suspended. A club statement in the summer read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.” Mudryk is not included in the final count due to the nature of his absence.
