Manchester City are one of the sides trying to sign French talent Mathys Detourbet from Troyes. That’s according to Foot Mercato.
They report that Detourbet is ‘a shooting star’ and the 18-year-old could very well follow in the footsteps of other French talents who have climbed the ranks quickly.
He’s very much at home at Troyes, where he’s been since a youngster, honing his skills in the youth ranks and then reserve team before being thrown into the deep end with the first team.
He managed 14 appearances, only one as a starter. So far, he’s managed one goal and two assists but his ‘goalscoring instinct’, skill on the ball and other qualities have caught the eye of several clubs.
Roma already offered €10m last summer. That was rejected by Troyes. They remain in the picture, but have been joined by several Italian clubs, Monaco and Manchester City. Monaco have even started discussions to try and beat the competition to the deal.
But they know they’ll have to pull out all the stops to beat Manchester City. They’re charmed by the 18-year-old and have already had him visit their facilities. They have a significant advantage as Troyes are also owned by the City Group.
It remains to be seen if that ensure they win the race for the youngster. But that race is underway and City are certainly in it.
