Report: Chelsea player set to leave Stamford Bridge in January after five years at the club

Chelsea will no doubt be active again in some form when the transfer window opens again in the next couple of weeks in the Premier League.

Jimi Tauriainen to leave Chelsea in January

One player who the club originally hoped was going to develop into a serious first team asset is Jimi Tauriainen. The Finland U21 international made his debut against Tottenham in 2024.

He has returned to action for the academy this season following a serious ACL injury, however with his contract coming to an end next summer there was always doubts he was in for a prolonged future in West London.

Now, according to the Mail Online, Tauriainen is set to leave the club in January, with there plenty of interest across Europe in his services.

The report goes on to say that clubs in Belgium and the Netherlands have already shown a desire to bring him in when the transfer window opens.

Tauriainen joined the club in 2020, however has not been able to make the regular step up to be considered by Enzo Maresca.

While it is only now reports of him leaving have surfaced, Tauriainen’s fate has actually been sealed since the start of the season.

When making his debut, the Finnish midfielder donned the number 49 on his shirt, which is now no longer available at the club.

However, Alejandro Garnacho took this number when he joined the Blues this summer, carrying on from his spell at Manchester United.

Tauriainen was most prevalent around the first team squad when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, however has just a combined two minutes of action across two appearances for Chelsea.
