As Liverpool approach the January transfer window, the stakes are rising on multiple fronts. The Reds find themselves in the thick of a fierce battle for two highly coveted Premier League stars: Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. Neither pursuit will be straightforward, with top-tier competition looming for both signatures.

Guehi, whose contract at Selhurst Park expires in the summer, has become one of Europe’s most wanted defenders. While Liverpool are keen to secure the England international they face a crowded field. Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham are all monitoring the situation, while European giants like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can open pre-contract talks as early as January 1st.

Similarly, the race for Antoine Semenyo is heating up. The Ghanaian forward has a £65 million release clause that is reportedly active for only the first two weeks of January. This narrow window has alerted Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal, meaning Liverpool must move decisively.

However, a fresh and intriguing option has emerged from Germany. According to a new report from TZ München, Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has been “offered” to Liverpool. The French centre-back’s contract expires in the summer, and negotiations for a renewal have hit a wall.

TZ reports that Upamecano’s camp is demanding a significant pay rise to around €16 million per year, plus bonuses and a release clause – terms that Bayern bosses are hesitant to meet. With talks stalling, intermediaries have reportedly proposed the 26-year-old to top European clubs, including Liverpool, as Bayern risk losing him for free if no agreement is reached.

Speaking while on France duty last month, Upamecano said on his transfer situation:

“We’ll make the right decision. I’m well advised,” he said.

“I’ve always said I feel comfortable at Bayern. I have a great coach and teammates. I’m under contract at Bayern. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
