Welcome to a series focusing specifically on the talented schoolboys at Arsenal who are currently at Hale End – those in the U16s and below. The academy is based in E17, Walthamstow. The sixth article is on Luis Munoz.
Despite technically being an U14 player, Luis Munoz is already a recognisable name for many Arsenal fans following his record-breaking exploits in the UEFA Youth League.
Last month as Arsenal U19s took on Bayern Munich Munoz entered the fray to become the youngest player in the competition’s history aged 13 years and 343 days.
Munoz, who turns 14 today, was also an unused substitute against Club Brugge in the final game of the league phase.
Capable of playing as a forward or an attacking midfielder, Munoz is an excellent dribbler and is effective at both creating and scoring chances.
This season he has mainly been involved with Arsenal’s U16 squad and it seems very likely that he will feature for the U18s at some stage in the second half of the season.
It will be intriguing to see how Arsenal manage Munoz’s development next season, when he will be an U15 player but could receive opportunities to impress at far higher levels.
He joined Arsenal in October 2020 as an U9 player and has frequently played above his age group.
Munoz is making good progress on the international stage too and is currently away with the England U16 squad while he is also eligible to represent Spain, Panama or Jamaica.
