Andrea Berta Is‘Leading’Talks As Arsenal Try To Secure Deal For“Absolutely Brilliant”Defender

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is “leading” discussions as the Gunners attempt to tie down Jurrien Timber to a new contract, according to reports.

The Dutchman still has two and a half years left on his current deal at the Emirates, but The Sun claim that Mikel Arteta‘s side are keen to reward the defender for his excellent form this season.

Talks with Timber and his representatives are believed to be heading in the right direction, so there is confidence that an agreement will be reached sooner rather than later.

The fullback has started all but two of Arsenal’s 16 Premier League fixtures so far this season, demonstrating his importance to Arteta and his team.

An Arsenal Invincible has praised the defender

Lauren, who played in the same position as Timber during his spell with the Gunners, was very complimentary about the 24-year-old when he was asked about the player last month:

“I believe that the connection between Timber and Saka has been absolutely brilliant. It always open the spaces on the right-hand flank. If Bukayo comes inside, he can go outside. If Bukayo is outside, he can pop inside to be an extra men next to the people in the left. He’s been absolutely brilliant and one of the very best.”

“The boy has been brilliant. And there’s more to come. He’s young, so we’ve got a fullback for a long, very long time, that’s for sure. First of all, for his mentality. And secondly, on the footballing way, he’s been absolutely brilliant.”

Timber is not the only player who could get a new deal

The Sun have confirmed that “negotiations” are also underway with Bukayo Saka and his camp. The winger’s contract expires a year earlier than Timber’s, so securing his signature is slightly more urgent.

It has also been suggested that captain Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice will be handed extensions pretty soon.
