It hasn’t been much of a secret that Kevin Garnett did not like Glen Taylor. The Minnesota Timberwolves legend has been estranged from the franchise since he left, and it was largely related to the presence of the former owner. With Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore in charge, in roads have been made over recent years.

It seemed as though the MN Timberwolves have been building towards something with Garnett. Now there is confirmation that a partnership, and celebration is in the works.

MN Timberwolves reuniting with Kevin Garnett

There has always been a need for the Minnesota Timberwolves to retire uniform number 21. They also needed Kevin Garnett as an ambassador for the franchise. That wasn’t going to happen while Glen Taylor was involved, but Lore and Rodriguez have bridged the gap.

Minnesota is arguably at the most important point in franchise history. Anthony Edwards is a 24-year-old superstar that is continuing to blossom in this league. His 28.7 points per game this season is a career-high, and Chris Finch’s team is looking to take the next step and play for an NBA Finals trophy.

Not only is Kevin Garnett a Hall of Famer, but after 12 years with the Timberwolves, he went to Boston and won a ring. During the 2007-08 season Garnett grabbed Defensive Player of the Year honors, and he continued to rack up individual accolades with the Celtics.

The headline-grabbing sentiment here is that Garnett will have his jersey retired by the Timberwolves. The more notable development is that he’ll bring a new level of involvement to the franchise.

If Garnett can further drive a level of development for Edwards, everyone tied to the organization stands to benefit. His presence in business dealings can be beneficial from an experience standpoint, and also provide another level of connective tissue. As a whole, this is a great thing for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
