Liverpool have reportedly initiated talks with Alexis Mac Allister over a new contract according to reliable reports.
A fresh update on Alexis Mac Allister and his potential extension at Liverpool. The Argentina international five-year deal after his £55 million (including add-ons) switch from Brighton in 2023, meaning he is getting closer to that sketchy one-year expiry period.
Even more worryingly, there were some rumblings earlier this year that Real Madrid were keen on bringing the Reds No.10 to the Santiago Bernabeu.
That of course is a situation that the Anfield club would want to avoid at all costs, especially with how accomplished Los Blancos are with coaxing out top players from their clubs via free transfers.
In Daily Mail Q&A, Lewis Steele was quizzed on any c0ntract news regarding Liverpool, and revealed that the midfield trio of Alexis Mac Allister alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai are in very preliminary talks over new deals with the club:
“With them two plus Mac Allister, there’s talks underway, very preliminary talks I’d add to that point.”
“Liverpool are keen to extend all three of those deals. We know what happens if you leave it too late as we’ve seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three [aforementioned] players love playing for Liverpool.”
“But what’s stopping them when Real Madrid president Florentino Perez gets on the phone in two year’s time? So Liverpool will be wanting to tie them down on 5, 6, 7-year contracts.”
Although Mac Allister has not hit the heights he did in 2024/25, the World Cup winner is undeniably part of the spine of this Liverpool side – and perhaps it’s no coincidence that the Reds’ downturn in form comes when Mac Allister is not at the races.
The 26-year-old has been unable to hit the heights he reached last campaign, following a disrupted summer caused by injury.
Managed carefully towards the end of last season, Mac Allister then endured a compromised pre-season, prompting Arne Slot to repeatedly urge patience regarding his form and availability.
The allure of the Bernabéu always a looming threat for South American stars, so hopefully Liverpool can kill that speculation before it can truly gain momentum.
