Chelsea's stance on Enzo Maresca after Manchester City target him as Pep Guardiola replacement - journalist

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has emerged as a target for Manchester City should they part ways with Pep Guardiola at the end of the season.

There is speculation that the 2025/26 campaign could be the Spaniard’s last at the club, and with Maresca’s history at City he is clearly one of the top candidates for the role should it become vacant.

Would this be the biggest blow to the Todd Boehly project so far?

The news comes at a time where the Italian’s position is as fragile as ever, after comments made in a post-match press conference hinting that he had not received the support he would have liked.

Chelsea fans have given their backing to Maresca, although may be starting to come to the conclusion that he is not set for much longer in West London.

After reports of City’s interest in bringing in Maresca, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea want to keep hold of Maresca, although are still planning a review of his performance at the end of the season.

He said: “Chelsea declined to comment. Maresca is contracted until 2030 and any approach for him would need to take place via Chelsea and require significant compensation.

“Man City sources note Pep is contracted beyond this summer and refused to be drawn on speculation. Chelsea want to keep Maresca, and a pre-planned review on his performance is set for this summer.”

Maresca is the first manager to last longer than a single season in charge of Chelsea since Todd Boehly and co took over the club.

Imagine Enzo Maresca has just been sacked. Who should Chelsea hire to replace him?

Chelsea cannot let Enzo Maresca join Manchester City

In just one season as a top-flight manager in England, Maresca delivered two trophies back to Stamford Bridge, the first of the era under the new owners.

It would be a catastrophic failure at the club if they were not to give the Italian the backing required, and he decided that he fancied the role at the Etihad.

Candidates to replace Maresca do not scream upgrade. Liam Rosenior is a figure significantly liked by BlueCo, but another who is extremely inexperienced at the top level.

Not every Chelsea fan has been completely convinced by the boss, but if City are considering handing him the responsibility to replace Guardiola then maybe it is something they are not accepting.
