Oliver Glasner has provided an update on Marc Guehi’s situation at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has given his verdict on Marc Guehi’s situation at the club, amid ongoing interest from Liverpool.

The Reds came close to signing the England international over the summer to bolster their defence but the move fell through in the final hours of Deadline Day.

Guehi is approaching the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park and multiple clubs alongside Liverpool are in pursuit of his signature. The Reds remain keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Anfield but competition appears to be tougher than ever amid the chance of signing him for free next year.

Oliver Glasner provides update on Marc Guehi

After Liverpool’s near-miss signing over the summer, rumours went into overtime predicting how Guehi’s season would unfold, and whether he would sign a new contract with Palace. Glasner confirmed back in October that Guehi would be moving on from Selhurst Park next year.

“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, 'No, I want to make something different', and that's normal,” the manager said.

He has since provided another update on his captain’s situation. Once we reach the end of the year, Guehi will have entered the final six months of his contract with the Eagles. Clubs will likely attempt to sign the defender in January for a cut price, while others will open pre-contract talks over a potential deal at the end of the season.

Based on Glasner’s latest comments, it seems Guehi is set to see out his terms with Palace before exploring his options as a free agent.

“I think Marc will stay until the end of the season,” the Palace boss said in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing KuPS in the Europa Conference League.

Why didn’t Liverpool sign Marc Guehi?

Guehi came close to becoming a Liverpool player over the summer but Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal in the 11th hour of the transfer Deadline Day.

Palace chairman Steve Parish had been eager to get some cash for Guehi during the summer, rather than risk losing him for free in 2026. He reportedly had even offered the centre-back up to Liverpool earlier in the window, knowing they had long-standing interest in him.

After ongoing speculation, the Reds saw a £35million bid accepted on the final day of the window, and Guehi was given the green light to undergo a medical. However, despite entering the final stages of a deal, Palace withdrew from the table at the last minute, after failing to sign a suitable replacement.

Glasner also made it clear to the Palace board that he was not happy with them accepting Liverpool’s offer and did not want to lose his captain on the final day of the window. Reports even claimed there were fears Glasner could step down from his role as manager if they lost Guehi so late in the window.
