Luka Doncic says he has one priority for Lakers over winning MVP

In an interview with ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Doncic set the record straight by claiming that winning an NBA title is his priority over the MVP award.

Luka Doncic isn't denying his personal goal of becoming the league's MVP. But in the end, his priority will always be winning a championship.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar told ESPN's Dave McMenamin that his focus will remain on clinching the NBA title, as he believes it will be a huge factor to eventually win the coveted award.

"My first focus is obviously championship. I'm not trying to think that much of individual awards but obviously, everybody who plays basketball wants the MVP," he said.

"Obviously, I want it, but it's gonna come with our team winning."

Emerging as one of the early candidates, Doncic holds a robust case to win the MVP award. He leads the NBA in scoring with a career-high 34.7 points, along with 8.8 assists and 8.7 boards.

Behind his brilliance, the Lakers have established their case as a powerhouse with an 18-7 record that currently sits at No. 3 in the Western Conference standings.

From the numbers and his impact on the Lakers' winning, there is no doubt that Doncic has a shot. But it can't be denied that the two of Nikola Jokic and reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are standing as his primary opponents for the hardware.

Should Luka ultimately win it, he'll become the first Laker since the late great Kobe Bryant (2008) to be a league MVP.
