Key Points

Brooks’ strong season with the Suns is overshadowed by his ongoing feud with James.

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has had a long on-court feud with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Even when Brooks was with the Memphis Grizzlies, he would always try his best to get under the star forward’s skin. During the Suns-Lakers game on Sunday, fans saw the two players in another intense battle.

James outplayed Brooks and led the Lakers to a 116-114 victory. Even after that, the Suns forward had some things to say about the four-time champion on Wednesday. After the team’s practice, he was asked about the late-game foul from the star forward.

Brooks did not hold back and called him a “social media junkie,” accusing him of pleasing others.

On Thursday, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas weighed in on Brooks’ rivalry with James. Arenas called the Suns player out, saying that his great season in Phoenix is being wasted because no one knows him outside of his beef with the Lakers star.

“Outside of LeBron James, and when he plays LeBron, who is he? Nothing. No one knows him,” Arenas said of Brooks on “Gil’s Arena.”

“This is the bad part about the personality. You’re playing too well to only be known against two games this year. He’s averaging 21, right? And the only time we hear him talk is LeBron James.”

His co-host, former NBA guard Brandon Jennings, argued that Brooks already made a name for himself when he was with the Grizzlies. Jennings pointed out that the Canadian star has gained recognition for having a great season with the Suns before they played against the Lakers.

Brooks has appeared in 20 games this year, averaging 21.6 points and 3.0 rebounds on 44.9% shooting. Despite having an excellent year, the former Oregon standout’s success has been overshadowed by his rivalry with James.
