Liverpool have been handed a potential injury boost ahead of their clash with Tottenham this weekend.

Slot won the Premier League with Liverpool last season, but even that hasn’t bought him enough credit to have a poor season, at least not this early in his time at Anfield.

Liverpool are currently seventh, two points off the top four and 10 points behind leaders Arsenal, while they have also been on a wobble in the Champions League.

To make matters worse, Slot seems to have fallen out with star man Mohamed Salah, who has a lot more credit in the bank with fans, and that could lead to the Egypt international to leave the club when he returns from the African Cup of Nations in January - or does not return, as the case may be.

It’s a critical time at Liverpool, and this weekend’s clash with Tottenham will be seen as an important one. One player who could help pick up a result in North London is Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been dealing with an injury.

According to The Athletic, the Hungary international has undergone a scan on his ankle, and the scan has revealed that there is no significant damage. It’s reported Liverpool are now hoping he can return as soon as this weekend, against Tottenham.

The player is said to have responded well to treatment, keeping him in contention for this weekend, though he will still be battling time. Slot said after the Brighton game, which saw Szoboszlai pick up the injury: “It didn’t look great when I just saw him. But he has unbelievable mentality so let’s hope for the best.”

As for Joe Gomez, who also picked up an injury in that game, the defender is not expected to have picked up a major injury, but Liverpool are expected to be cautious, meaning the defender will almost certainly miss the Tottenham game.

Slot said of Gomez after the game: “If I have a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe, that’s normally not a positive thing. I would not expect him to be in the squad next week [against Tottenham] but sometimes you get a positive surprise.”
