'You can feel': Fabrizio Romano explains whether Arne Slot may still get sacked despite Liverpool improvement

Liverpool look like they may have finally turned a small corner after winning back-to-back games.

After one of the worst periods in the club’s history in terms of results, the Reds have bounced back with victories over Inter Milan and Brighton.

Prior to the clash in Milan especially, Arne Slot felt to be under severe pressure for his job. Mohamed Salah speaking out so publicly against him and Liverpool felt like a potential body blow for the head coach.

However, Slot came out swinging against Salah. While he handled the situation well on a personal level, the Liverpool squad clearly responded as well, putting in two much-improved performances.

Clearly, results change things at every club, for better or worse. But as Reds fans hope that they can continue on the right path, journalist Fabrizio Romano has outlined whether Slot is still in danger of getting the sack.

Arne Slot enjoying ‘way better’ situation at Liverpool

Saturday’s game against Tottenham should go some way to revealing just how much of a corner Liverpool have turned.

In the meantime, Romano says things are now ‘way better’ internally at the club, with Slot feeling the benefit.

“After the recent wins, way better situation internally,” the reporter told his YouTube channel on Thursday.

“After what happened with Mo Salah you can feel how important his role is for the Liverpool management. They decided together with Arne Slot how to handle the story, so the power of Arne Slot is very clear in terms of receiving support from Liverpool.

“They trust the manager even in difficult situations. He remains in control at Liverpool. The results will have to improve but they already improved so it will have to continue this way.”

What’s the latest on Xabi Alonso?

Part of the reason Slot was coming under a little more pressure at Liverpool – at least from the outside – was the potential availability of former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso to take over.

Alonso was on the verge of the sack at Real Madrid earlier this month but, like Slot, the Spaniard has quietened the noise with two wins.

According to Romano, Alonso is not out of the woods yet at the Bernabeu, but wins in three key upcoming games will at least buy him more time.

“Xabi Alonso won the last two games and this was for sure helping to change the pressure around him,” Romano said. “But at the same time the next games will still be important. The position is under control but still not 100 per cent safe.

“The next games, Sevilla, Betis and then the Spanish Super Cup will be really important to see what Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso will do for the future. He will have the opportunity to keep his job, and the next two games in La Liga and then the Super Cup, really important for the club to see how the team reacts in top, top games.”
