“What I can say” – Fabrizio Romano provides Enzo Maresca update after Man City links

Chelsea aren’t looking to get rid of Enzo Maresca currently and are focused on the season ahead according to Fabrizio Romano.

It was reported on Thursday Maresca is high on Manchester City’s list to replace Pep Guardiola when he does decide to leave the club.

Maresca has done a good job at Chelsea so far, but there’s believed to be tensions behind the scenes, highlighted by his comments after the Everton game.

Chelsea not looking to get rid of Enzo Maresca

Maresca is thought to have an internal problem at Chelsea, and felt he wasn’t supported after the defeat to Atalanta in the Champions League earlier this month.

The Italian has now overseen back to back wins after previously being on a four game winless streak, and has guided Chelsea to the Carabao Cup semi final.

The City story might have come as a surprise, but the 45-year-old switched agents earlier in the autumn to Jorge Mendes, who’s believed to have a good relationship with City’s sporting director Hugo Viana.

However, it appears at this point in time Maresca will stay at Stamford Bridge, but Romano has provided an update on the situation.

“When Pep leaves, he will be involved internally to suggest next best man for Manchester City coach,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Appreciation internally has always been there for Maresca. Man City’s sporting director is Portuguese and Maresca decided to change agent to Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes so we have these two elements.

“What I can say at the moment is Chelsea are not looking to get rid of Maresca at all, and are focused on this season.

“Maresca is under contract and it would require really important compensation in any case.”

Liam Rosenior appreciated by Chelsea

Whilst a change of manager isn’t imminent, Chelsea reportedly admire Liam Rosenior who’s doing an impressive job at Strasbourg.

David Ornstein has reported Rosenior will likely be a Chelsea manager one day, but right now he needs to continue his development in France.

What Chelsea need to try and do is repair the issue between the manager and the club, and hopefully continue together and build on the success of last season.
