Alexander Isak reiterates Liverpool plan and urges fans not to worry about him after award win

Liverpool supporters are beginning to wonder whether Alexander Isak will ever hit form after a slow start to life on Merseyside.

The Swede dominated last summer’s transfer window after forcing through a move to Anfield from Newcastle.

However, fitness issues have blighted his time with Liverpool so far, with a lack of rhythm and confidence harming his ability to hit the ground running.

Two goals in 15 matches is not the return you want from your new, £125m No. 9, but that is what Liverpool have received from Isak.

Obviously, the Reds have signed him for six years, not six months, but that has still led to concern that they may have bought themselves a very expensive flop. After winning Sweden’s Player of the Year award on Thursday, however, it is clear that Isak himself is not in the least bit concerned.

Alexander Isak stays calm despite lack of goals

Isak was supposed to be the sure thing when he signed from Newcastle in September. Premier League proven to a brilliant degree, the 26-year-old should have been the ultimate plug and play.

While fans are getting antsy that that has not been the case at all, though, Isak has told Swedish outlet Aftonbladet that he is staying balanced.

“Absolutely. That comes with experience,” he says after being asked if he is confident of getting through the lean patch. “As I said: Never too high, never too low. Trying to find that balance, that’s what I feel I’ve gotten better at.

“That’s always what you hope for, that everything will just flow. But not everything goes as planned, and then you have to take it as it comes.”

In a long and revealing interview, Sweden’s Player of the Year also touched on how Liverpool as a team can get out of their current rut.

When will Alexander Isak hit form for Liverpool?

“Every Liverpool player and fan knows that when Alexander Isak hits form, or whenever it clicks, he’s going to be a problem.”

“I don’t really have the answer to that,” Isak said. “The team-wise thing – it’s clear that it’s been slow, but that’s how it is in football. There are always teams that are flying, and then it’s slower for others. It’s about turning that around. And for me too… it’s not the first time in my career that I’ve gone through a period like this, or been in bad shape. That’s how a football career works, it’s just something you have to fight your way out of.”

Isak reiterates why he wanted to join Liverpool

Right from the start of his transfer saga last summer, it was always clear that Isak only wanted to join Liverpool.

Asked by Aftonbladet why it was so ‘obvious’ that Anfield was to be his next home, the striker reiterated why the Reds became part of his plan.

“Yes. That was the most interesting thing for me. I felt pretty early on that this was where I wanted to go,” he said claiming that ‘a holistic picture, the club’s history, where the club is today and the next steps it will take,’ were the key things that attracted him to Liverpool.

Clearly, things are not going as they should be for Isak so far. But this award underlines the player that he can hopefully still become with the Reds.

The Sweden international is clearly not getting carried away despite the noise that continues to surround him. Fans should learn to do the same. He will come good.
