Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Dominik Szoboszlai and the rest of the Liverpool injuries ahead of the clash vs Tottenham Hotspur.
While the three points against the Seagulls were vital last weekend, the sight of Dominik Szoboszlai limping off in the 83rd minute put a serious dampener on the mood at Anfield. The Hungarian powerhouse, who has been an absolute engine for Arne Slot’s side this season, was forced to cover at right-back following Joe Gomez’s earlier withdrawal.
Slot’s post-match comments didn’t exactly help the anxiety levels, with the boss admitting the ankle issue “didn’t look great” initially. Given how integral Szoboszlai has been—playing almost every minute of the campaign—the fear of a long-term layoff was palpable.
But reports this week allayed fears of a serious issue, with both reports from Hungary and England both asserting that the issue did not appear to be too serious.
Up until this setback, Szoboszlai had been ever-present in the Premier League, starting every game, playing virtually every minute, and acting as Liverpool’s one constant.
Losing him for a long period would represent a huge setback, with the midfielder having already produced 5 goals and 5 assists in 23 outings in all competitions this season.
But now speaking in his pre-Tottenham press conference, Arne Slot has provided an update on Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and Jeremie Frimpong:
“Gakpo had a scan that looked promising this week, so he may come back a bit earlier but that’s not tomorrow and also not next week.”
“Gomez is not in the squad for the weekend. Dominik trained for some parts of the session yesterday, so let’s see where he’s at today. Jeremie is in the squad again.”
Liverpool vs Tottenham kicks off at 17:30 GMT on Saturday.
