Liverpool confirm seven players could miss Tottenham Hotspur clash as Dominik Szoboszlai injury update given

Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: match review

Liverpool team news ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Arne Slot has provided a Liverpool injury update ahead of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (17.30 GMT).

The Reds look to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches and show that they have turned a corner, having already surrendered the Premier League title.

Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai were both forced off in the 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Gomez limped off in the first half with a muscle issue, while Szoboszlai had to be withdrawn in the closing stages because of an ankle issue.

Gomez will miss out against Spurs and although Szoboszlai is set to train today, the key midfielder will have to be assessed. Slot says that if Szoboszlai is available then he will likely start.

“Joe is not in the squad at the weekend. Dominik trained in parts of training yesterday so let’s see where he is today.”

Will Szoboszlai start vs Spurs?

Asked if Szoboszlai will start or be among the substitutes, Slot replied: “That depends on how he does today, if he can fulfil the training session and then you speak to the player and the medical session. If he doesn’t feel comfortable we will have a discussion but Dom has been a starter in the one-and-a-half years I have been here.”

Jeremie Frimpong has not played a game for Liverpool in two months because of a hamstring injury. The summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen has had a frustrating start to his Anfield career. However, the versatile right-sided player is set to return to the squad against Spurs, while Conor Bradley is back from a suspension.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without Mo Salah for several weeks as he represents Egypt at the African Cup of Nations.

Gakpo encouragement

Cody Gakpo (muscle) and Wataru Endo (ankle) remain unavailable, along with Giovanni Leoni (ACL). Gakpo’s injury is not as serious as first feared, though, but he will be unavailable for the Spurs game.

“He (Gakpo) had a that was promising to we are not too worried as we were two weeks ago. He might come back a bit earlier than expected but it’s definitely not tomorrow or next week.”

Well-regarded youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns are unable to supplement the bench as they recover from respective hamstring problems.
