Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City is again under doubt. This week has seen suggestions he could depart in the summer.
A final decision is likely to be made in the next few months. With that in mind, Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca is seen as one of several potential replacements.
Support for Guardiola has now arrived in the form of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian arrived at the club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, amidst doubts regarding his suitability to the system at the Etihad. Those uncertainties have now faded away, largely thanks to the goalkeeper’s performances.
Manchester City move going well
Donnarumma has spoken to Sky Italia and made it clear that he wants to work with Guardiola for years to come.
The 26-year-old said, as relayed by Alfredo Pedulla: “I respect him enormously. We have an extraordinary relationship and he helps me a lot with my decisions. He keeps me calm in every situation.”
The goalkeeper believes having Guardiola coach him is a ‘special’ feeling. He spoke of his desire to create history for Manchester City.
“It’s everyone’s dream to be coached by him. I’m lucky to be here with him and I hope to spend many years here with him and write the history of this club. It’s truly special.”
Guardiola has shown some adaptability to counter the Italian international’s weaknesses on the ball. The player’s strength of shot-stopping has proven to be an upgrade on Edderson.
The current situation contrasts sharply with his experience at PSG, given Luis Enrique didn’t see Donnarumma as skilled enough for his system.
