Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table, and they have a two point lead over Manchester City, who play against West Ham this weekend. The Gunners can extend their lead to five points with a win at Everton, but it won’t be easy.
David Moyes’ side themselves are a win away from the top six, and have won two of their last three matches. However, star winger Iliman Ndiaye has left for AFCON, and both Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are injury doubts.
Sutton predicts narrow Arsenal win
Following Arsenal’s narrow 2-1 win against Wolves last weekend, Chris Sutton has made his weekly score predictions for BBC Sport, and believes Arsenal are going to beat Everton 1-0. However, he said that if Everton had Ndiaye, Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall, it could be a different story.
He wrote: “The Gunners have been ugly at times this season but they still get the job done and it might be a similar story here. I can’t see them losing this game but they will need to find a way to win it, against an Everton side who have won four of their past six matches.
“I am not a medical expert but, if Dewsbury-Hall or Grealish have hurt their hamstrings in any way, which is what has been reported, then there is no way they will be fit for Saturday. Because of that, I am going for a narrow Gunners win to make it a ‘Feliz Navidad’ [‘Merry Christmas’ in Spanish] for Arteta, with his team top of the league.”
As things stand, Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall are both listed as doubts, and it will be a huge boost for Arsenal if they can’t play on Saturday. Both English attackers have been excellent this season, and so it is a big deal if they aren’t fit.
