Wolves lock horns with Brentford this weekend in the Premier League as they eye their first win

Wolves return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Brentford. They were beaten 2-1 away by Arsenal last time out. The Midlands outfit remain bottom of the Premier League table are without a win so far this season.

Rob Edwards was appointed as their head coach last month and was picked as the replacement for Vitor Pereira at Molineux. He has managed the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton Town in the past. The 42-year-old then left his role at Middlesbrough in the Championship to take on a new challenge.

Ex-Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton drops Wolves vs Brentford prediction

Wolves have been predicted to lose again on Saturday to Brentford by former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton. They scored a late equaliser against Arsenal in their last outing and looked like they had done enough to earn a surprise draw at the Emirates Stadium against the league leaders. However, they conceded a last-gasp goal which meant they left London with nothing.

Sutton, who also had spells with the likes of Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea during his playing days, has delivered his verdict, as per a report by BBC Sport: "What a miserable Christmas party the Wolves players must have had. They are not staying up, not a chance. They pushed Arsenal close with their rearguard action at Emirates Stadium last weekend, but still lost in the end.

“Rob Edwards needs something, anything, to go his way after five defeats from five games and maybe - just maybe! - he will get a crumb of comfort on Saturday. The reason I say that is because Brentford's away record is woeful, with seven defeats and just one win in the Premier League so far. I still think the Bees might nick it, but instead I am going for Wolves to get a point and bring a tiny bit of Christmas cheer to Molineux, although I am not sure how long it will last. Sutton's prediction: 1-1."

Wolves need more quality ahead of the January transfer window

Wolves boss Edwards will be eager to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad in the January transfer window if possible. He needs to bring in some more quality and some fresh faces. The Telford-born man may also look to offload some players to free up some space and funds in his ranks to pave the way for reinforcements.

In terms of speculation regarding potential new signings, it has been pretty quiet. Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford was mentioned as a potential target amid his lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola but appears they want to keep hold of him now next month as cover for number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.
