Chelsea have made their “first offer” for Saint-Etienne forward Djylian N’Guessan, according to reports in the French media.
L’Equipe claim that the Blues have tabled a bid worth €8m (£7m), which is below Saint-Etienne’s €12.5m (£11m) valuation.
N’Guessan is only 17 years of age, having made his first-team debut against Stade de Reims in the French top flight in January.
Since Saint-Etienne’s relegation, he hasn’t featured that regularly, but he did score his first goal for the club against Quetigny in the French Cup last month.
2 other Premier League clubs are interested in N’Guessan
The teenager is closing in on the final 18 months of his contract at Saint-Etienne and he is reportedly unwilling to extend his stay.

N’Guessan’s club are, therefore, open to offloading him either next month or at the end of the season.
L’Equipe report that Arsenal and Brentford have also taken a look at the striker, but the only official proposal so far has come from Chelsea. It is now up to the Blues whether they will up their offer ahead of the January transfer window.
Would he join Chelsea or Strasbourg?
At the moment, it seems as if N’Guessan is being pursued by the London club, although we have seen a similar situation like this play out before with Saint-Etienne.
Mathis Amougou was signed from the French team last January. He stayed with Blues for six months, but he clearly wasn’t meant to be part of Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad.
He only made 2 appearances in the second half of last season, making substitute appearances against Southampton in the Premier League and Legia Warsaw in the first leg of the Conference League quarter-final. Following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, he was loaned out to Strasbourg. A similar scenario could play out with N’Guessan.
