Early injury concerns dominate ahead of Newcastle vs Chelsea clash in the Premier League on Saturday.
Blues Hit Hard As Key Names Miss Out
Chelsea arrive with more bad news on the injury front. Estevao Willian will miss the trip, while Liam Delap is out after picking up a new injury against Bournemouth.
Romeo Lavia remains sidelined with a hamstring issue and is not expected to be back until early January. Levi Colwill’s season is already over following a serious knee injury. That has been a massive blow to the West London club’s defence.
Dario Essugo is also unavailable and is looking for a return in January. There is some relief, though. Cole Palmer is likely to be involved after concerns over his fitness eased. His presence could lift the Blues with so many options missing from the squad.
Newcastle Injury List Grows Before Chelsea Test In Premier League
Newcastle United are dealing with huge fitness worries as they gear up for Chelsea. Dan Burn remains sidelined and will not return until late January, leaving Eddie Howe short at the back. Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth are also ruled out. There’s hopes on a new year return for both of the Magpies’ stars.
Sven Botman continues to recover from a back issue and is not expected to feature until January. Jamaal Lascelles is another confirmed absence after an ankle issue ruled him out for a few more weeks.
The only question mark is Nick Pope. The goalkeeper is close to a return and could be involved. But, no final call has been made at the moment. His fitness could play a big role for Newcastle, as they need for calm at the back in a high pressure game. Squad depth will be likely be tested under pressure from Chelsea attackers.
Author’s opinion:
Injuries may decide this match between Newcastle and Chelsea before tactics do. The side that adapts quicker will likely take control of the game.
