The Catalan club has submitted an offer for Abdelkarim that includes a six-month loan until June 2026 with a €4 million purchase option, as they seek to reinforce their reserve side, Barça Atlètic, amid a shortage of fit natural forwards, Spanish outlets reported.

Discussions are ongoing and no agreement has been reached. Ahly are reviewing the proposal but do not view the current terms as financially attractive, preferring a higher guaranteed fee or improved conditions such as a sell-on clause, Egyptian media said.

Any move would have to wait until the January 2026 transfer window, when Abdelkarim turns 18, in line with FIFA regulations governing international transfers of minors.

Abdelkarim has been a standout performer for Egypt’s youth national teams. He played a key role in Egypt’s success at the 2024 UNAF Under-17 tournaments and scored twice at the 2025 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations, despite Egypt exiting at the group stage.

His profile rose further at the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored two goals and provided an assist in the group stage, earning man-of-the-match awards, including against Angola, as Egypt reached the round of 16.

Scouts have described him as a classic target man, noted for his physical presence, aerial strength and instinctive finishing inside the penalty area, while pointing to his link-up play as an area still under development.

Barcelona’s interest dates back to November and intensified following Abdelkarim’s World Cup displays. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said on 18 December that Barcelona’s interest was “genuine”, confirming initial talks but stressing that nothing had been agreed.

Catalan newspapers Mundo Deportivo and SPORT reported that Barcelona are currently in pole position, detailing the proposed loan deal with a €4 million option to buy. Football España and Barca Universal also reported that the player is pushing strongly for the move.

Sources close to the player told Egyptian outlet KingFut that Abdelkarim and his family see Barcelona as a “dream” destination and believe a move would accelerate his development through the La Masia pathway and potential first-team exposure.

Egyptian media, including Youm7, reported that the player is pressing Al Ahly to accept the offer and has put talks with other interested clubs — including Bayern Munich, Olympique Lyon, Manchester City and AC Milan — on hold.
