Sporting director hatches ‘concrete idea’ to sign Chelsea defender in January

Axel Disasi has been destined for an exit since Enzo Maresca arrived at Chelsea, and he may finally get his chance.

A favourite of Mauricio Pochettino’s, Disasi hasn’t convinced Maresca since the Italian arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Disasi, along with Raheem Sterling, has been training separate from the first team since returning from his Aston Villa loan, and there doesn’t seem to be a path back into the side for the Frenchman.

Luckily, there are a couple of clubs who are interested in offering him a way out, with one sporting director showing real interest ahead of the January window.

AS Roma’s Frederic Massara wants to sign Axel Disasi

The Serie A has offered an escape route to many out-of-favour Chelsea stars over the years. Mohamed Salah back in the 2010s. Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham more recently. It’s a different league and one where many Premier League outcasts thrive.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, both Roma and AC Milan are strongly considering a move for Disasi.

They report: “In recent days, we’ve reported on AC Milan’s concrete interest , but Roma have also been making insistent moves in recent hours.

“In addition to attacking reinforcements, the Giallorossi are also seeking a low-cost center back , and Disasi is a very concrete idea from sporting director Massara.”

Is there a way back for Axel Disasi at Chelsea?

Or do the Blues just need to cut their losses? 👀

That Friday afternoon report suggests both clubs would be open to negotiating a deal for the Chelsea centre-back, and West Ham are also keeping tabs on Disasi.

But there is a problem for the Blues.

AC Milan and Roma looking for ‘low-cost’ options

The Italian outlet makes it clear that neither side are in a position to break the bank for the 27-year-old.

That could be an issue. While Chelsea are desperate to offload Disasi, they did spend close to £40 million signing him from Monaco.

Milan want a loan only, which is just kicking the can down the road. Roma’s desire for a low-cost option could also be problematic.

That being said, this is a mess of Chelsea’s own making. The decision to axe Disasi from the squad completely sends a clear message to interested parties that this is a dead asset in the eyes of BlueCo, and as such, they can’t ask for a king’s ransom.

On initial reaction, a loan seems like the worst option. If a club is willing to negotiate a permanent deal, Chelsea will have to jump on it — even if it means taking a substantial loss.
