The Mohamed Salah saga at Liverpool appears to have reached a momentary ceasefire, but the real work to find a permanent resolution is only just beginning. Following the week of explosive headlines, benched matches, and public frustration, the Egyptian King’s return to the pitch against Brighton has brought a much-needed sense of calm to Anfield—at least for now.
While the immediate fire has been doused, the embers are still burning. Salah jetted off to Morocco for AFCON 2025, which kicks off on December 21, leaving a void at Liverpool that goes beyond just his output on the pitch.
According to Fabrizio Romano, this period away will be critical for his club future. While Salah focuses on national glory, his agent, Ramy Abbas, is scheduled to hold decisive talks with Liverpool’s management in England.
The objective is clear: find a permanent solution. The current “truce” brokered by positive talks with Slot last Friday is fragile. However, it appears that Arne Slot feels that the issue has been dealt with, and that Liverpool FC has “moved on” from the situation:
“I’ve said last week actions speak louder than words. We’ve moved on,” Slot said in his pre-Tottenham press conference.
“He was in the squad [versus Brighton & Hove Albion] and he was the first substitution I made. Now he’s at the AFCON playing big games for himself but also for the country, so I think it’s fair to them – but definitely also for us because we are going to play some very important games – that all the focus for him is over there and there should not be any distraction from me saying anything about his time at Liverpool, because what I said: we’ve moved on after the Leeds interview and he played against Brighton. Now he is there, so it’s fair for the country, for him and also for us to talk about Tottenham and other games and for them to be fully focused on their tournament.”
