The Dallas Mavericks made the decision to trade for Anthony Davis last season in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history. They decided to swap Luka Doncic as the centerpiece of the trade in order to acquire Davis.

It was a move that ultimately got Nico Harrison fired this season. Davis has failed to stay healthy in his two seasons in Dallas. Now, the Mavericks could be inclined to try to move the big man while he still has some trade value. The new regime might want to move on.

If the Mavs do decide to make that decision, The Athletic believes that four teams make the most sense for Dallas to send him to.

Anthony Davis Linked to Four Teams in Potential Trade

The Athletic lists Davis as the top player available in a trade this season. That means they don’t truly believe that Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be on the move. Regardless, they have four teams listed as potential destinations for Davis: the Celtics, Pistons, Hawks, and Raptors.

From Dallas’ perspective, they need to get some solid players and draft picks in return for Davis. The Hawks have the best package of both to give them. They would be the ideal team to trade with, but they have to indicate having serious interest in him.

It was reported that the Hawks have an exploratory interest in Davis. They need to have a deeper interest in him in order for talks to materialize. Detroit would be the other team that has assets that would interest Dallas. Boston might be the team with the least amount of assets to give out.

Davis would likely want Boston more than the other teams because of the odds of winning a championship with them next season. Toronto is still in flux with its roster, but it has been a much better team this year than many pundits expected it to be.

The Dallas Mavericks Are Undecided if They Will Trade Anthony Davis

It’s still unclear whether or not the Mavericks will decide to trade Davis. They want to make sure they would get back proper value for him, but that is hard to quantify. It will be impossible for them to get back what they traded away in exchange for Davis when it comes to value.

The Mavericks could also decide to see how the team looks next season when Davis and Kyrie Irving are fully healthy next to Cooper Flagg. Once Irving comes back later this season, they will likely become a much better team. Right now, Dallas sits 11th in the Western Conference standings.

There is a good chance that the Mavericks end up being a play-in team if they decide to keep Davis. Dallas feels they are a much better team with Irving playing next to Davis, which is something they haven’t really seen.
