Steph Curry has shared his reaction to Dillon Brooks' shot late in the Warriors' loss.
Late in the Golden State Warriors‘ loss to the Phoenix Suns, Steph Curry took a shot to his midsection from Dillon Brooks. Curry has broken his silence on the incident that nearly helped the Warriors secure an away victory.
The Warriors were down by five points with 38 seconds left in the game when Brooks hit Curry in his ribs or stomach area. The Suns forward was called for a flagrant foul, giving Curry two free shots at the charity stripe.
Jimmy Butler then made a 3-point shot to tie the game, but Golden State still ended up losing 99-98. Moses Moody was called for a foul on Jordan Goodwin with 0.4 seconds left. Goodwin split his free throws to give the Suns the win.
Curry Calls Brooks’ Gut Shot ‘Bush League’ Play
Speaking to reporters after the game, Steph Curry was asked about his reaction to Dillon Brooks’ shot to his gut. Curry described it as “wild” and called it a “bush league” play, though he also admitted that they took advantage of the flagrant foul call.
“It was wild. Back and forth. I think the fact that we were down five, that play happened, which was bush league, but took advantage of it. Jimmy hits a big three,” Curry said, via The Athletic.
The four-time NBA champion then detailed the final plays from Devin Booker‘s go-ahead bucket with 31 seconds left to his clutch free throws that would have sent the game to overtime. He also thought they could have avoided another close loss if they had executed some players earlier in the game.
“There was a fight for it, and we fouled. We were out of challenges. Again, that’s the idea of you don’t want to be in that situation without the ball last possession, and we did enough, I think, throughout the game to not be in that position, but it’s never easy to pull yourself out of a hole, and we’re feeling that right now, so we got to keep pushing,” Curry said.
The Warriors dropped to 13-15 for the season, extending their losing streak to three games. They get a rematch against the Suns on Saturday, this time at the Chase Center.
Brooks Explains Why He Hit Curry
For the second consecutive game, Dillon Brooks got in trouble for taking things too far with an NBA superstar. Brooks was ejected in the Suns’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers for talking trash to LeBron James.
This time around, Brooks was hit with a flagrant foul that almost led to another loss for the Suns. The brash forward explained to reporters what happened between him and Steph Curry.
“I thought he was running to try to get the rebound, so I tried to stop him. But I’ve been lifting too much… doing what the other guys are doing and lift on game day, bro. It’s just, I don’t know how to explain it. Just gotta figure it out for next game so I don’t do anything to put our team in a bad spot,” Brooks said.
Brooks added that Curry wasn’t talking trash to him, but other Warriors players weren’t shy. He also admitted that he was just trying to get back at all the times he lost to Golden State in his career.
