TheCleveland Cavaliers will face theChicago Bulls for the second consecutive game on Friday, December 19, but this time, they may be without their superstar guard.

Donovan Mitchell is listed as questionable with an illness on theofficial injury report. He had 32 points, one rebound and five assists in a 127-111 loss to Chicago on Wednesday, December 19.

Mitchell has logged a team-high 34.4 minutes per game this season and handled the bulk of the offensive responsibilities for Cleveland. The six-time All-Star is averaging 30.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 49.3% from the field and 38.3% from three.

Is Donovan Mitchell Playing Tonight?

Mitchell was a late addition to the injury report on Thursday evening, as he appears to have picked up an illness in the last couple of days.

There is no significant injury history the team needs to be concerned about.

The ninth-year guard has missed only two games this season and has played in every contest since November 13. He’s been a key reason why the Cavaliers have been able stay in playoff position in the Eastern Conference, even while All-Star guardDarius Garland has missed significant time with a toe injury.

Cleveland will likely monitor Mitchell’s situation throughout the day and should be able to confirm his final status closer to tip-off. If he ends up sitting out, his next opportunity to play would be Monday, December 22 against theCharlotte Hornets.

Cleveland Cavaliers Are Struggling As Of Late

The Cavaliers have been going in the wrong direction recently, as they are 3-7 in their last 10 games. Garland is struggling as he works his way back to full strength, averaging just 15.7 points per game and shooting 27.4% from three, both well below his career averages, in his last 10 contests.

The team also got some tough news on Saturday, December 13, as centerEvan Mobley will miss 2-4 weeks with a calf strain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is the anchor on that side of the ball for the Cavaliers. Backup centerJarrett Allen, who played in all 82 games last season but has missed time this year withfinger injuries, will now be the rim protector for Cleveland.

The Cavaliers have a chance to pick up some much-needed wins before a pair of challenging games next week. They will face the Hornets andNew Orleans Pelicans at home before squaring off with theNew York Knicksat Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day. Cleveland will travel to play theHouston Rockets on Saturday, December 27.
