The Anfield boat has been rocking in recent weeks amid uncertainty over Arne Slot’s role as Liverpool manager
During Liverpool’s tough run of results earlier this season, Arne Slot’s name was a mainstay in the media as his position at the club was heavily debated.
The Reds hit a monumental dip in form back in September, which saw them lose six out of seven Premier League games, including consecutive 3-0 defeats to both Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. Liverpool also suffered a humbling 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League right after, marking ten goals conceded in their last three games.
This disastrous spell cast serious doubt over Slot’s role as manager, leading to a frenzy of reports suggesting Liverpool were on the market for an immediate replacement. However, following the Reds’ back-to-back wins, things seems to have calmed a little at Anfield.
Will Arne Slot be sacked by Liverpool?
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Slot’s position as Liverpool manager and claims that the club are now in a ‘way better situation internally’ following the latest wins over Inter and Brighton.
“After what happened with Mo Salah, you can feel how important his role is for the Liverpool management. They decided together with Arne Slot how to handle the story, so the power of Arne Slot is very clear in terms of receiving support from Liverpool,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“They trust the manager even in difficult situations. He remains in control at Liverpool. The results will have to improve but they already improved so it will have to continue this way.”
Liverpool will face Tottenham Hotspur this weekend before the festive period gets underway, followed by their final home game of the year on December 27th against Wolves. Maximum points from their remaining games could see them move up as high as fourth for the new year, depending on how other results around them go.
Will Mo Salah play for Liverpool again?
As things stand, it appears the waters have settled between Slot and Salah, following the Egyptian’s boat-rocking comments to the media. The winger accused Liverpool of ‘throwing him under the bus’ and suggested he no longer has a relationship with the manager. He also said he does not feel he has to fight for his place in the team every week after what he has achieved at Liverpool.
Salah was benched against West Ham and Leeds, and was left behind for the trip to Milan following his bombshell comments. There has been a lot of speculation over Salah’s future, especially after he hinted that the Brighton game could be his last in red. The winger said he wanted to say goodbye to the fans at the Anfield ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, sparking rumours that he could be moving on in January.
Salah will be at AFCON until the end of the month at least but depending on how far Egypt reach in the tournament will decide how long he will be in Morocco. The AFCON 2025 final will be held on January 18th.
