For any player carrying the weight of a club-record transfer fee, the initial months can feel like an eternity when the goals don’t flow immediately as what unfortunately did not happen for Alexander Isak. The scrutiny is intense, the pressure suffocating, and the noise from the outside world deafening.
Since his deadline-day switch from Newcastle, things haven’t exactly gone to script. A disrupted pre-season, nagging injuries, and a solitary Premier League goal have led to questions being asked sooner than anyone would have liked. But amidst the gloomy headlines and tactical autopsies, a ray of light has broken through from his homeland.
Alexander Isak has been officially named the winner of the 2025 Guldbollen, crowning him as the Swedish Men’s Player of the Year. The prestigious award, presented by the Swedish Football Association and Aftonbladet, recognizes his stellar performances over the calendar year – predominantly his form for Newcastle United before his summer switch to Merseyside.
“It’s a great honour, I’m very proud. It’s very nice to be here and a nice price,” says Alexander Isak to the Sweden FA.
“The first people I told were those in the family in different order. I told my siblings and my parents. They reacted with pride and joy, of course,” he says.
“I would sum up my football year 2025 as very eventful. A lot of successes, some setbacks as well. But very eventful, a year to remember.”
“There is a lot to look forward to in 2026. Both at club level but above all also at national team level. It is an incredible challenge where the price is very high if we manage to move on and we will do everything in our power to make it a memorable summer,” the Liverpool N0.9 finished off saying.
Congrats, Alex 👏
