Ranked – Top 3 Everton Goals V Arsenal

Ahead of tomorrow’s game versus Arsenal, we look at three memorable Everton goals against the Gunners.

3 – Romelu Lukaku, Everton 3-0 Arsenal. April 2014

I genuinely thought we were onto something under Martinez after this performance. I suppose a lot of us did.

Our attack was devastating that day, and Lukaku was right at the heart of it. Out on the right, the Belgian steamrolled Arsenal’s defence with pace and power, before firing a left-footer past Szczesny.

Current Arsenal boss and former Toffees Mikel Arteta scored an own goal at the Street End that day.

It also secured our first win over Arsenal in seven years.

2 – Andy Johnson, Everton 1-0 Arsenal. March 2007

One of those stoppage time winners leading to absolute pandemonium inside Goodison type of goals. It’s still strange to think the men’s team will never score another one of them.

Johnson was superb that day, and ran the Arsenal defence ragged. The rain was biblical, as were the celebrations when the England forward finished from close range.

Getting the flick on at the near post from a corner, the ball fell kindly for Johnson to smash it past a helpless Jens Lehmann.

1 – Wayne Rooney, Everton 2-1 Arsenal. October 2002

There are certain moments as a football fan that stay with you forever. At 10-years-old, sitting in the Lower Gwladys, this was one for me.

It’s insane to think that Rooney was only six years older than me when he plucked Thomas Gravesen’s lofted ball out of the sky and unleashed a shot that would end a 30-game unbeaten run.

It was a winning goal of the highest order, in the 90th minute against world class opposition. Remember the name, indeed. We might not see another one like him again.
