Liverpool risk losing out on signing Marc Guehi in 2026

Marc Guehi is believed to remain a top transfer target for Liverpool ahead of 2026 but the sheer volume of competition could weigh against them. Despite coming close to signing the centre-back over the summer, the Reds look to be at risk of being buried by rival interest.

Guehi has reportedly been told by his agents that he is going to be ‘one of the most wanted free agents of all time’ as he approaches the end of his contract with Crystal Palace.

Reports this week have suggested a move to Anfield is back on. However, TEAMtalk has debunked this claim, as Guehi is ‘in no rush’ to commit to his next club this early.

Marc Guehi will have ‘his pick’ of clubs for his next move

Guehi is reportedly ‘more than happy’ to wait and decide his next career move, with as many as 13 clubs said to be interested in signing him next year. The defender’s agents have been tasked with deciding which club will be the best move for him but his camp has reportedly informed him he will ‘have his pick’ of those linked.

“Marc is doing his thing, he is very happy with his form, and if you ask him, his main focus is on Palace and England ahead of the World Cup finals,” a source told TEAMtalk.

“He is leaving his agents to assess his options, and they have told him he literally is going to have his pick of clubs. His people told him he is going to be one of the most wanted free agents of all time, if he leaves on a free, and that is exactly how things are panning out.”

Liverpool at risk of losing Marc Guehi transfer race

Liverpool had all but shaken Guehi’s hand over the summer when Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the pending deal. The Reds had their £35 million bid accepted and had reached personal agreements with Guehi, but Palace slammed the door in the final hours of Deadline Day, as they couldn’t find a suitable replacement in time.

There have been plenty of reports suggesting Liverpool will make another offer for Guehi in January, or they may opt to wait until the end of the season to try and get him for free. Either way, the Premier League champions are now at risk of being completely forgotten by the man who almost signed for them less than four months ago.

Not only will Guehi have more clubs to choose from next summer but the stance of his agents is very telling. According to TEAMtalk correspondent Graeme Bailey, the centre-back’s ‘slate has been wiped clean’ since his failed move to Liverpool.

“Liverpool knew this was the case, Guehi’s people made them and all his suitors aware this his position was that everyone was starting afresh, and that was one reason they really wanted to push it through, getting him last summer was arguably the best chance they had. Nobody else was in position to do a deal.

“That isn’t to say they won’t get him in 2026, they still want him but as we have confirmed there are more than a dozen clubs who a realistically looking to make him an offer. Guehi and his people are in no hurry to agree terms with anyone. They want to assess all their options before making their decision.”
